Things to Do

Welcome to the page where we recommend fun things to do in Pittsburgh! At least one of us has done every activity here, and we've done most of these as dates. Enjoy a curated list of our favorite Pittsburgh activities!

As a side note, if you're traveling via the Pennsylvania Turnpike across the state, consider stopping at either the Flight 93 Memorial or Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. Both are on the way to Pittsburgh and worth the stop!

Bayernhof Musuem

This museum was once someone's house, decorated in the 19th century Bavarian style. However, it's better known as the home of the world's largest collection of self-playing musical instruments! We loved touring this house-musuem!
Location: Sharpsburg (North of the city)

Carnegie Museum of Art

While this musuem is smaller in scale, it's a lovely collection: everything from Medieval reliefs of sculptures to contemporary art installations. We went here on our second date and loved it!
Location: Oakland

Carrie Blast Furnace

Now a historic site, this blast furnace offers an awesome look into pre-World War II steel production. We found the tour to be really fascinating and fun!
Location: Swissvale/Rankin

Commonplace Coffee

This is where we went on our first date! We recommend this spot for any coffee lovers--they have great lattes and hot chocolate, too!
Location: Squirrell Hill

Kayaking on the Allegheny River

If you're in the mood to spend some time outside, taking in the views of Pittsburgh, then this is a great choice! You have one hour (or more!) to explore the Allegheny River with great views of downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods!
Location: North Shore

Klavon's Ice Cream Parlor

This is a great stop for a classic sundae or a milkshake. It still looks like it did almost 100 years ago! We stopped here right after we got engaged to celebrate with ice cream!
Location: Strip District

Peach Picking at Simmons Farm

Consider stopping at Simmons Farm to pick your own peaches or visit their farm market! We loved exploring the orchard and had plenty of peaches to bake peach crisp!
Location: McMurray (south of the city)

Pittsburgh Glass Center

If you're in a creative mood, stop by the Pittsburgh Glass Center, where you can learn how to blow glass from an expert glass blower. We had a great time learning to blow glass ornaments!
Location: Bloomfield

Pittsburgh Pirates Game

The Pirates are in town the weekend of our wedding! That means that you can catch a game while you're in Pittsburgh for the weekend! The views of downtown from the stadium are beautiful!
Location: North Shore
